Das Studio wurde 1996 zunächst als interne als Interplay-Division gegründet. Ab 1998 wurde das Team offiziell mit dem Namen Black Isle Studios betitelt.
Sitz: Los Angeles/Kalifornien
- Anfang Dezember 2003 wurden die Black Isle Studios von den Eigentümern geschlossen, da sich die Interplay-Gruppe in einer finanziellen Schieflage befand, die letztlich in der Insolvenz endete.
- Ende August 2012 wurde das Studio von Interplay, die aus der Insolvenz herausgekommen sind, wieder reaktiviert.
