"Black Dragon" ist ein horizontaler 2D-Slasher, der sich optisch und spielerisch offenkundig beim hauseigenen "Ghouls 'n Ghosts" bedient.
In der Rolle eines Barbaren zieht der Spieler durch eine fiktive, mittelalterlich angehauchte Welt. Dabei werden obligatorische Monster bekämpft, Gold gesammelt und Ausrüstungsgegenstände gekauft.
Der Mehrspielermodus erfolgt nicht gleichzeitig im simultanen kooperativen Modus, sondern wechselweise nacheinander im Kampf um den besseren Highscore.
