Gegründet 2002 durch Michael Booth mit Sitz in Irvine, Kalifornien.
Wurde Mitte Januar 2008 von Valve Corporation aufgekauft und in Valve South umbenannt. Ursprünglich war Anfang 2009 der Umzug des Studios nach Bellevue, Washington angedacht, was von einigen Angestellten, darunter Michael Booth, jedoch abgelehnt wurde. Valve South hörte im Frühjahr 2009 zu existieren auf - der Großteil seiner Mitarbeiter nahm wie geplant in Bellevue als Teil des Hauptstrangs von Valve seine Arbeit auf, der Rest blieb in Kalifornien und gründete im Februar 2010 die Turtle Rock Studios neu.
Im Dezember 2021 von Tencent aufgekauft
