Wird diese getrennt, wird das Spiel beendet (nachdem der letzte Checkpoint gespeichert wurde - man beginnt also beim nächsten Spielstart nicht wieder da, wo die Verbindung unterbrochen wurde, sondern beim zuletzt passierten Checkpoint).
Spielstände werden außerdem nicht mehr auf der Festplatte, sondern auf den Uplay-Servern abgelegt. Das Spiel ist zudem dauerhaft an einen einzigen Ubi.com-Account gebunden, der vor erstmaligem Spielstart zwingend online erstellt werden muss, was einen Gebrauchtkauf bzw. den Verkauf des Spiels quasi obsolet macht. |

Ende April 2008 von Ubisoft-Chef Yves Guillmont auf einer Pressekonferenz offiziell angekündigt.
Die Handlung setzt 1476 zu Beginn der Renaissance in Italien ein. Schauplätze des Spiels sind Venedig, Rom und die Toskana. Erneut stehen sich die Kreuzritter vom Orden der Templer und die Assassinen gegenüber. Der Spieler schlüpft in die Rolle von Ezio Auditore de Firenze, einem Adligen aus Florenz. Er ist ein Nachfahre von Altaïr (der Protagonist des ersten Teils).
Mittlerweile wurde "Assassin's Creed II" in seiner unzensierten Form von der USK ab 16 Jahren freigegeben, nachdem ein Ubisoft-Mitarbeiter irrtümlich verlautbart hatte, dass sämtliches Blut für Deutschland entfernt werden müsse (es muss jedoch lediglich im Optionsmenü aktiviert werden - dies gilt wohl für alle Versionen).
