Nachdem die DLC-Zusatzepisoden ursprünglich nur für PC und Xbox 360 geplant waren, wurde Mitte Mai 2009 angekündigt, sie nach und nach auch für die PS3 umzusetzen.
Auf der PS3 gibt es im Zusammenhang mit der Download-Version von „Broken Steel“ einen kleinen, aber ärgerlichen Bug: Three Dog, Besitzer und Moderator von Galaxy News Radio, gibt im Zuge der Ploterweiterung einige neue Kommentare über die Taten des Einsamen Wanderers und das Ende der Hauptquest zum Besten. Leider werden diese auch dann schon zufällig eingespielt, wenn die Hauptquest noch nicht beendet wurde. Da sie massive Spoiler enthalten wird empfohlen, Galaxy News Radio nicht zu hören, sollte man sich die Spannung nicht nehmen wollen. Ob es dieses Problem auch mit dem DLC auf anderen Plattformen gibt, wurde bisher nicht geklärt, bei der „Game of the Year Edition“ scheint es nicht zu bestehen. |

„Broken Steel“ ist die bedeutsamste Erweiterung für „Fallout 3“, da sie - als einziger DLC - die Handlung der Hauptquest ergänzt. Bei der Installation wird der letzte Auftrag der Hauptquest verändert und selbige um drei weitere Quests (und mehrere Nebenquests) nach dem eigentlichen Ende erweitert. Außerdem hat sich Bethesda dem Ärger der Fans über die zu knappe Levelobergrenze gebeugt und diese von 20 auf 30 erhöht. Es ist weiters möglich, nach Beendigung von „Broken Steel“ das Ödland weiterhin frei zu erkunden (was in der normalen Handlung nicht mehr möglich war, nachdem der letzte Auftrag abgeschlossen wurde).
Mit „Broken Steel“ begann Bethesda, die fünf erschienenen Erweiterungen auch für die PlayStation 3 umzusetzen, die bis dahin als einzige Plattform keinen DLC für „Fallout 3“ erhalten hat.
