"Salamander" ist unlängst einer der Arcade-Klassiker überhaupt seiner Machart. Der Titel gelangte in Deutschland primär durch die Heimportierung für das NES "Life Force: Salamander" zu großer Bekanntheit. Das Spiel gilt als Archtyp des gesamten Genres und setzte den Standard für Konami's Weiterentwicklung in dieser Spielreihe: Die weltberühmten "Gradius"-Titel.
Bis zu zwei Spieler können sich gemeinsam durch das Spiel schießen, in dem sich Side-Scroll- und Top-Down-Stages abwechseln.
