"Need for Speed: Rivals" wurde am 22.05.2013 von EA über Facebook mit einem Bild angekündigt. Technisch basiert das Spiel auf der Frostbite 3-Engine von Digital Illusions.

"Rivals" ist im Kern eine Neuauflage von "High Stakes" plus "Hot Pursuit" in einer frei befahrbaren Spielwelt. Mit einem ganz entscheidenden Unterschied: Hier sitzen jeweils menschliche Fahrer am Steuer: Wahlweise als Cop oder als Raser.

Einzel- und Mehrspielermodus gehen hier fließend ineinander über. Sobald die Konsole online ist, wird man automatisch per Matchmaking in den Mehrspielermodus versetzt, sodass andere Cop- und Raser-Spieler ins Spiel eintreten. Obwohl es auch eine Solo-Karriere gibt (solange man offline ist), ist der quasi 'Mehrspielerzwang' des Titels entsprechend stark ausgeprägt.

Im Mehrspielermodus treten online mehrere Teilnehmer gemischt gegeneinander an. So können sich zum Beispiel mehrere Spieler des Cop-Teams gegen einen Raser verbünden und diesen zusammen jagen. Lokale Mehrspielermod... [->mehr]
