"Train Sim World" ist Dovetail Games offizieller Nachfolger des seit 2009 für PC entwickelten "Train Simulator". Wie der Vorgänger basiert auch diese Version technisch auf der Unreal Engine.

Neu ist, dass der Spieler das Spiel aus den Augen des Lokführers steuert: Er startet in der Ego-Perspektive auf dem Bahngelände und muss zunächst zu seinem Fahrzeug laufen. Anschließend muss in der Lok die Maschine startklar gemacht werden. Bei E-Loks muss z.B. vor Fahrtantritt die Startbatterie einsatzbereit gemacht und der Stromabnehmer ausgefahren werden.

Anschließend werden diverse Fahraufträge in den typischen Bereichen Personen-, Güter- oder Rangierverkehr ausgeführt.

Erstmals bietet Dovetail Games seine Zugsimulation auch für Heimkonsolen an. Es gibt insgesamt vier Ausgaben für verschiedene Plattformen:
