Was der Klempner Mario für Nintendo, das ist der blaue Igel Sonic für Sega, das Maskottchen, das über viele Jahre hinweg als Aushängeschild für Sega stand. In seinem ersten Jump 'n Run-Spiel kriegt es der blaue Igel mit dem wahnsinnigen Dr. Robotnik zu tun. Dieser will, wie schon so viele Bösewichte vor ihm, die Weltherrschaft an sich reißen. Und viele seiner Helfershelfer sind dabei ihm zu dienen.
Doch durch Draufspringen kann sich Sonic seiner Feinde entledigen. Zudem sind auch im ganzen Land Ringe verteilt, die ihm das Leben ebenfalls mächtig erleichtern. Doch ob er Dr. Robotnik am Ende schlagen kann, hängt ganz von Dir ab!
Dieses erste "Sonic"-Spiel ist ein absoluter Klassiker im Genre, welches den damaligen Nintendo-Top-Konkurrenten zu einem großen Namen verhalf.
