Blue Shift wurde ursprünglich als Zusatz-Episode speziell für Dreamcast konzipiert und entwickelt, ist aber nie offiziell erschienen.
Die Produktion wurde zwei Wochen vor Release gecancelt. Das fertige Gold-Master ist jedoch ins Internet geleakt worden. |

"The new official stand-alone episode in the Half-Life universe. In Half-Life : Blue Shift, explore previously restricted areas of Black Mesa and learn more about the fatal incidents at the mysterious facility."
Zunächst als exklusive Zusatzepisode für die Dreamcastversion des Hauptprogramms gedacht, ist diese schließlich als eigenständiges Spiel für den PC erschienen, welches ohne das Hauptprogramm auskommt und daher ein Stand-Alone Add-On darstellt. Die Dreamcastversion ist nie erschienen.
Das Spiel enthält zusätzlich einen HiRes-Patch, mit dem sich die Grafik vom Hauptprogramm Half-Life samt AddOn Opposing Force verbessern läßt, also auf das verbesserte Niveau von Blue Shift.
Hauptsächlich äußert sich das in detaillierten Figuren (mehr Polygone und schärfere Texturen).
