"Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment" basiert auf dem gleichnamigen Light Novel (eine japanische Form des Kurzromans, die mit Illustrationen im Anime- oder Manga-Stil geschmückt wird) von Reki Kawahara.
Der Name "Sword Art Online" rührt daher, dass sich die Handlung des Romans in wesentlichen Teilen innerhalb der virtuellen Welt eines Online-Rollenspiels (MMORPG) zuträgt. Dabei werden die Protagonisten im Roman über den Anschluss ihres Nervensystems direkt in die virtuelle Realität des Videospiels versetzt, wo sich dann die Kernereignisse abspielen.
Daher gilt es hier einer Verwechslung vorzubeugen: "Infinity Moment" ist lediglich eine Lizenzumsetzung der Romane in Form eines normalen JRPG. Der Titel ist NICHT dem Genre der Online-Rollenspiele (MMORPG) zuzurechnen, sondern 'simuliert' lediglich deren Gameplay.
