Die Kämpfer aus den SNK-Spielen "Art of Fighting", "Ikari Warriors"
und "Fatal Fury" wurden im Laufe der "King of Fighters"-Serie beliebig gewechselt - "King of Fighters '98" vereint sie alle in einem großen Schlagabtausch ohne geschichtlichen Hintergrund und ist deswegen unter Fans sehr beliebt. Es gilt gemeinhin als bester Teil der Reihe.
