Das Spiel wurde 2001 offiziell von EA Games angekündigt und sollte für die PS2 erscheinen. Kurz vo der Veröffentlichung wurde die Entwicklung des Spieles eingestellt.
Medal of Honor: Fighter Command sollte damals zum Vergleich seiner beiden Vorgänger, kein klassisches FPS-Spiel mehr werden, sondern ein Action-Flugsimulation. Das Spiel sollte eine neue Grafikenige, Action-Sequenzen in Ingame-Grafik und Orchester-Musik verwenden.
Das Spiel wurde von Seitens EA gecancelt, da man den Hauptfokus bei der Serie auf FPS legte.
Jedoch wurde das Konzept später wieder von Lucas Arts aufgegriffen, die damit das Spiel: "Secret Weapons over Normandy" entwickelten.
