Angekündigt im Februar 2000, sollte "The Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge" die inoffizielle Nachfolge der "UFO" bzw. "X-COM"-Reihe antreten.
Das Spiel des X-COM-Vaters Julian Gollop wurde im Februar 2001 auf Eis gelegt, da man zunächst keinen Publisher für dessen Vertrieb gewinnen konnte. Schließlich sprang Bethesda Softworks ein, beendete die Finanzierung der Entwicklung jedoch nur zwei Monate später wieder.
Mitte 2001 vergab Virgin Interactive als Rechteinhaberin die Entwicklung an Altar Interactive. Dort wurde die Entwicklung unter dem Arbeitstitel "UFO: Freedom Ridge" von Neuem begonnen, bis das Spiel schließlich 2003 als "UFO: Aftermath" auf den Markt kam.
Die bei Mythos entwickelten internen Reste des Spiels wurden als Grundlage für "Laser Squad: Nemesis" verwendet. Nichts desto trotz erlitt Mythos Games schwerwiegende finanzielle Ausfälle, was den Ruin des Studios bedeutete. Zur Entwicklung von "Laser Squad: Nemesis" wurde ein neues Studio gegründet: CoDo Games.
