„Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon“ ist ein Spin-Off der japanischen „Chikyuu Boueigun/Earth Defense Force“-Reihe. „Insect Armageddon“ stammt nicht von Sandlot, dem Macher des Originals, sondern von Vicious Cycle Software.
Die rudimentäre Handlung widmet sich der neu gegründete US-amerikanische Division der „Earth Defense Force“ bei ihrem Kampf gegen eine erneute Alien-Invasion.
Lokal können zwei Teilnehmer die Kampagne im Split-Screen zusammen spielen, über Internet bis zu drei Spieler. Dazu gibt es eine Art Horde-/Survival Mode für bis zu sechs Teilnehmer.
