Wie schon beim 2006er "Tales of the Tempest" wollten die Entwickler auch hier den Mehrspielermodus vom Serien-Standard abweichen lassen: Für "Tales of Hearts" war geplant, dass nicht die Kampagne, sondern nur eine Art Spezial-Dungeon gemeinsam gespielt werden kann: Das Spirit Maze (Heart Dungeon). Dort sollten besonders harte Gegner anzutreffen sein, die explizit kooperativ angegangen werden müssen.
Entsprechend wertvoll sind jedoch auch die Fundstücke, die sich dann im Einzelspielermodus verwenden lassen. Einige Sondergegenstände lassen sich ausschließlich nur im Mehrspielermodus finden. So die damalige Ankündigung.
In der finalen Version des Spiels ist dieses Spirit Maze aber nicht mehr enthalten. Wieso man den Plan und damit den gesamten Mehrspielermodus über Bord geworfen hat, ist unbekannt.
