"Tales of Berseria" wurde Anfang Juni 2015 im Rahmen des "Tales of Festival 2015" in Japan angekündigt. Für das Character Design zeigt sich Mutsumi Inomata verantwortlich.
Der Titel bietet einen lokalen kooperativen Mehrspielermodus für bis zu vier Teilnehmer. Während Spieler 1 den Hauptcharakter über den gesamten Spielverlaufs steuert, also auf der Weltkarte, in Städten/Geschäften und Dungeons usw., können die restlichen Gruppenmitglieder in den Echtzeitkämpfen von menschlichen Mitspielern gesteuert werden.
Die westlichen Versionen von "Tales of Berseria" sind zensiert: Die Kindermord-Szene, in der der kleine Junge Laphicet von seinem Peiniger auf einem Schwert aufgespießt wird, wurde in den lokalisierten Fassungen verfremdet. Die Tötung findet immer noch sichtbar statt, allerdings mit einem Zauberspruch, anstelle einer Klinge. Dadurch ist sie grafisch nicht mehr so explizit.
